Julie Herndon is a California-based composer and performer working with internal/external space, improvisation, text, graphics, and electronics. Her compositions and installations have been included in musical festivals such as soundSCAPE in Italy, Megapolis Audio Art Festival in Oakland, Wintergreen Performing Arts Summer Festival in Virginia, and Hot Air Festival in San Francisco. As a pianist and vocalist, she has performed her work at venues including the Zen Mountain Cloud Center in Santa Fe, Eureka! Musical Minds Conference in Santa Cruz, San Francisco Art Institute, and the Center for New Music in San Francisco.
Awards in Music include the Elizabeth Mills Crothers Award for outstanding musical composition and the Barbara Bershon Arts Alliance Award. Julie holds a MA in Music Composition from Mills College and began beginning doctoral studies at Stanford University in the fall of 2016.
